I wrote this as a response to a comment on one of my G+ status updates. I’m quite proud of what I wrote. This text will bother some people, so I’m going to put it behind a MORE tag, and if you click on it, you will likely not like what you are about to read. I will not be upset if you elect to not click on the MORE tag. If you do, and what I have to say makes you feel bad, well, that’s your own problem. I’m not going to carry that weight on my shoulders, I have to deal with enough of that as it is…
The existence or non-existence of God does not concern me mostly. What does concern me is how my fellow human beings behave when intoxicated by religion. Christians in particular are renowned for being a hateful, spiteful, bloodthirsty lot bent on world domination couched in their religious intolerance for anyone who is different than they are.
Christians, Muslims, and Jews all suffer from this affliction. They are so full of their own righteous faith that they commit acts that they themselves preach against. They murder, they hate, they spite, they act reprehensibly towards other people. It doesn’t matter what the rules are or which prophet is doing the walking or talking. It can be Moses, Mohammed, or Jesus – these followers all behave the same way. From bloody genocide during the Crusades to faux posing in the antebellum south to engage in lynchings all the way to the contemporary versions of these religion’s hatred of other people. And they all hate me, and people just like me.
I have been in a loving committed relationship for 14 years and these faiths regard me as an abomination. Jesus Christ said nothing about people like me and preached love and tolerance and yet I continuously face threats and discrimination from “Christians”. I have no tolerance for any member of the big-three faiths because they do not behave in accordance with their own rules. Each and every one of them is a self-deluded hypocrite and in many conditions they are outright bigots!
This is where I come from. Keep your faith to yourself. Keep your “God” to yourself. Don’t tell me about your faith, don’t try to save me – usually that ends up in a stoning, a burning, or a shooting. And if you have any love for your fellow man, keep your faith out of our laws! I am compelled to obey the law to conduct myself in civil society and the last thing I want is someone trying to impose their faith onto me through the law. Yes, many of the early founders wrote laws based on their faith and these laws are unjust and should be struck down. I don’t want to live under the tyranny of any faith, I want to be free. Free to live my life, to be safe, to conduct my affairs without interference from well-meaning but horribly corrupt religious nuts. What I really want is a world free of religion. You can have your faith, you can be free and practice your faith with people who think like you, that is what being in America is all about, but the minute you think your faith should be wrapped around another person, then you have gone too far. Keep your faith, keep your privacy, but above all else, keep your silence. Don’t dare talk to me about God.
I am different, I am not one of you. I am not a Christian and I am deeply thankful for that fact. I live a life of constant discrimination and outrageous inequality and I live a life of fear. Fear of Christians. Fear of Muslims. Fear of Jews. Fear of you all because you cannot keep to yourselves. You feel it important to spread the good word even if you have to kill someone to do it. You preach against hate yet your hearts are made up of nothing but hate. A faithful human is a paradox in practice. The words of your prophets are indeed very pretty and very attractive and how I wish any of you actually listened to them! Each one of them had a cart of goods to sell that would have made the world a paradise, but all of those teachings are perverted by your wretchedness.
So I fantasize about watching the faithful fly off to another planet. To leave Earth, or alternatively the other way around. I do not care. Being happy is being free of intolerance, discrimination, and inequality. Waving as the ship launches would be the single best thing that has ever happened to the human race.
I don’t care to know how these words make you feel. I want above all else your silence. I want to be left alone. I want people who are faithful to keep their own faith and leave the rest of us in peace. I want you all to stop the hate, stop the intolerance, and stop always pushing discrimination and inequality. The real agony of it all is all you people have to do is just STOP. But you never will. Not until everyone who is different is disposed of properly. I hope the shame of that rocks you to your core.
Talk to me of God? Please, anything but that.
